Autoimmune Nutrition Protocol

AIP DIET

What is the AIP Diet?

A short-term diet aimed at managing autoimmune disease. The duration depends on the intensity of autoimmune processes and ranges from 1 to 6 months. The duration is determined individually after consulting a specialist.

You should not follow the strict autoimmune protocol for more than 3–4 weeks due to the risks of an unbalanced diet and the possibility of developing multiple deficiencies. To perform the protocol correctly and compensate for risks, it is important to work together with a specialist.

If increased bloating and gas occur on AIP, it is recommended to first complete the FODMAP nutrition protocol.

If your weight drops significantly or menstruation disappears while following AIP, pay attention to whether your diet includes starchy vegetables and fermented foods.

Principles of AIP Nutrition

• Elimination of foods with pro-inflammatory activity that may provoke inflammation and immune responses.
• Foods in the diet should be as whole, high-quality, and unprocessed as possible, without long ingredient lists.
• Nutrition should be as complete as possible (so the body has resources for recovery); caloric restriction is not allowed — eat until full. The only thing you may count is fructose intake — no more than 30 grams of fructose per day.
• Almost every meal should contain protein; if desired, dinner can be vegetable-based.
• Between meals you can drink homemade bone broth.
